It all begins with an idea. The Sheridan Market and Roadhouse and the Sultana Stage is committed to performers of all ages and abilities. The idea for this contest started when first visiting other great competition venues, yet the Senior, or the ‘Grand Diva’ Ladies had to compete with much younger and agile competitors. This Competition celebrates the OVER 50 dancer, however, we have categories for ALL AGES!

Cane by Shar La! $25 1 hour workshop

Shar la has studied dance all her life. She learned her Baladi Cane from Dalilah of Cairo, a contemporary of Nagwa Fouad. She has also studied with Mahmoud Rada, Abraham Farah, and Sheren al Safi. Her award winning troupe, Raq Oriental, was Belly Dance troupe of the year in the Belly Dancer of the Year competition in California. She currently performs in the Portland area and is a member of the Potpourri Dance Troupe under the direction of Jadeeika. Shar la brings you classic baladi cane with a playful nature. Join her to learn a complete choreography.

Veil! $25 1 hour workshop

Let's take the mystery out of the veil. Learn the secret techniques to make your veil look effortless and hypnotizing. This multi-level class will quickly touch on basic veil techniques before moving on to more advanced concepts. You will learn proper hand holds and placement. How to connect movements together for optimum flow. Relevant turning and wrapping techniques. High Impact moves and spins!

3:30 to 4:00 PM (approx.) BREAK 30  Minutes

4:00 to 5:15 PM (approx.) Contest begins-Second Half:

3.      Golden Era – aged 50 or Over                      Approx 30 Min

a.       Music Length 5 min drawn at time of performance from a selection of 4 songs.

b.     Judges should familiarize yourself with these songs ahead pf performance time.

4.      Grand Diva Goddess and Beginner** Diva Improv – aged 50 or over, and one contestant under 50 This will take about (45 Min)
