Christie Rotarius is a voice teacher in Lake Forest Park. Her students are teens and adults, including Broadway artists, local Seattle theatre artists, singer-songwriters, touring pop and rock musicians, and jazz and cabaret singers.

This is an All Ages and FREE Community Event!

Our Spring Cabaret will be an evening of eclectic music featuring showtunes, pop/rock music, jazz, as well as originals!

The Roosevelt Jazz Band is BACK at te Sheridan for a great Sunday afternoon concert! Plead join us as we welcome these up and coming students that will be playing for your pleasure!

Belly Dance with Rebecca

The 1st Sunday of each month (begins June 1, 2025)

This is a class fore EVERYONE regardless of Dance Experience!

Do you want to discover new forms of movement, develop strength and toning, and gain confidence while getting a fabulous low-impact cardio workout in a positive environment? It is time to renew YOU with Belly Dance with Rebecca, a multi-level Belly Dance Class with a touch of flare for all levels of dancers whether you are a novice or a professional. Everyone is welcome into a supportive dance environment.

Rebecca moves the class through a warmup that focuses on dynamic mobility exercises with a series of belly dance movements and combinations that vary from week to week and ends with a cool down. Strengthening exercises. Posture emphasis, dance vocabulary and basic music interpretation incorporated into every class.

Classes will include the following Topics:

·         Introduction to a Routine

·         Veil

·         Taqism

·         Drum Solos

·         Intros and Exits

·         Stage Presence

·         Do and Don'ts of Dancing at a Venue

·         Choreographies (a solid Foundation of Technique needed)

For students who would like to take their dancing skills to the stage, Rebecca is the perfect mentor and loves to share her knowledge and guidance to help her students get to the level they want to be and when performance opportunities present themselves you can often see her students participating in performances with her at local venues.

Suggested Attire: Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for dance class, such as yoga pants and an exercise top. Bring a scarf, coin, or beaded belt to tie around your hips. Do you not have one? No problem, coin belts will be available to use in class and/or for purchase. Belly Dancing typically barefoot.

This is a recital of Ian’s 3rd-12th grade music students.  It will range from beginning guitar and piano students, to talented young jazz guitarists and even a rock band ensemble comprised of 6th graders on bass, drums and guitar.

The Guitar Gil and Friends Quintet!

Performance time is 7 to 9 PM, and doors open to the public at 6PM!

They perform in the Seattle area playing the music of Basie, Dizzy, Horace Silver, Ellington, Miles, Jobim and other greats. The members of the group also perform in other bands throughout the NW including the Jazz Police, Route 66, the Power Players, the Moonlight Swing Orchestra and the Sonic Funk Orchestra.

CenterPiece Jazz Band is a 10-piece all-volunteer resident ensemble, whose mission is presenting high quality and entertaining performances for the purpose of championing Music Center of the Northwest.

CenterPiece is a big-band type jazz ensemble made up of Music Center faculty, community members, and professional-level volunteer musicians from around the Seattle area. Center Piece performs a variety of music, from traditional swing and dance music to modern jazz including original compositions!

No cover and all ages!

Pinetree will be BACK at the Market for another great evening of Funky Soulful Blues and Jazz! From Harmonica and Guitar to great vocals, you will have a great time dancing and jamming to these tunes!

● Grand Diva Goddess (Over 50): 4-6 min. This showmanship category is for golden and silver dancers to shine your awesomeness by traditional bellydancing to Middle Eastern music! Celebrate your journey in this amazing art form.

● Golden Era Improv (All Ages): 4-8 min. Bringing back the Golden Age of Bellydance from the Casinos of Egypt 1940’s-1960’s, dancers will demonstrate "Golden Era extravagance quality” by dance style and wearing vintage style costumes. A pre-chosen classic song from this era will be played and the dancer will perform improv (without pre-planning any steps or choreography).

● Dancing with Props (All ages): 4-6 min. A prop is used as a focus/centerpiece of the dance such as to highlight/accentuate gestures, to create rhythms, to convey ideas or feelings. Dancers may also use their costume as a prop such as a large skirt or a one-of-a-kind head piece.

Performing under the ‘Prop’ Category the approved props are:

Isis wings

Cane/Saidi stick(s)

Fan veils

Veils (for example a 7 veil dance, double veil, single veil, etc)

Belly dancing sword

Shamadan (with battery candles only)

Contestants are prohibited from using fire, knives, daggers or any live snakes or animals in their performances.

● **NEW- Fusion (All Ages): 4-6 min. Fusion is a modern style of belly dance combining elements from other dance styles and is a way to celebrate cultural exchange. It blends traditional Middle Eastern belly dance with other styles such as flamenco, hip-hop, contemporary dance, etc. In this category dancers have an opportunity to be creative and experiment with a variety of movements, music, costumes, and choreography.

● **NEW- Troupe/Duet (All Ages): 5-10 min. This category focuses on both the art of choreography and of the dance when more than one person performs together to a song.

All dancers must always be engaged in movement during their performance except for transitions and lineups.

● **NEW- Beginner Diva (All Ages): 4-6 min.

This beginner category is for dancers who have been bellydancing 2 years or less. It is an opportunity for those new to bellydancing to perform in a supportive venue of friendly competition. Can be sponsored by an instructor. No intermediate or advanced level dancers of any style, please.

All categories are for “All Experience Levels” except for “Beginner Diva”.

Alongside songs by band members Peter, RL Heyer, Greg Kramer and the PNW's own Joel Ricci are covers of songs by Stevie Wonder, Childish Gambino, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Kendrick Lamar, The Beatles, LCD Soundsystem, Bob Marley, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Herbie Hancock, Sly & The Family Stone and more.

Since it is the First Friday before our Grand Diva competition, we are going informal this month hosting an open Bellydance au Go-Go ‘JAM’! Any interested party can show up no later than 8PM to be able to dance! This is an informal event, so no fancy costume needed, bring your friends, and we will play your song! Group dance and ladies can party!

Our Spring Hafla and Costume Swap!

Interested dancers or vendors should email SheridanMkt@gmail.com with your interest in participation! Rules for the swap will be provided, space is limited!

Dance spots are available for Solo dancers have that will have 8 minutes, Troupes will have 10m minute time slots. David Metz is on drum for those wishing a Live Drum Solo!

People interested in costume swap or sales please email your interest. Doors will be open at Noon for swapping so all costume setups will need to be completed prior, so there is a limit on the amount of vendors. There will be a donation pile for gifted items that everyone can select from!

We are asking a $7 donation entrance for operation costs and there will be food and beverages available for purchase!
